On Thursday December 4th, I attended the Hollywood Web Television Meetup at SAG. Not being overly familiar with Los Angeles, I did have to go around in circles a bit before finding where the building actually was at night. The place was jam packed-there to see Felicia Day, creator of the indie web series The Guild.
I attended this seminar to gather information about placing my content on the web to support this dream that I have and found that Felicia had a lot to say that I took to heart- most importantly-believe in your project passionately and having the drive to make it happen. You have to be determined to make it.
In the spirit of that-I make sure that I do at least one thing a day to benefit my music since getting back into it. Whether it be, just following up on an e-mail or furthering my knowledge on some portion of the business. Or finalizing a portion of a lyric to a song I have written…everyday moving towards my goal.
Today I am meeting with songwriter Moses Toth, he is helping me with arrangements on these cover songs that I am doing for the EP. It’s exciting to listen to these great classics and put a new spin on them.
Also at the meet-up was Cristian Cussen from MySpaceTV-he had a lot of good information to share about the site and their exciting new ventures. Speaking of MySpace, I am so excited about having the most recent adds and all of the support!! Thanks for joining me on this journey. Projects are about getting things done! My motto is wishing and hoping is not a plan so I started my project with the end in sight and worked my way backwards. The goal-to relaunch my music career after being on the sidelines for four years. This time around I knew what had to be done and wanted to go about it in a different manner. Now here is the list. The next week's blog will focus on each subject exclusively: o Finding the Passion o The Music o The Image-the look, business cards, photos, o Performance Style o Websites o Blogging o Networking o Gigs o CD Sales E-Mail: ferminmusic@aol.com Tanya Fermin Online:
CHECK IT OUT-www.myspace.com/tanyaferminmusic It’s been four years since singer/songwriter Tanya Fermin came on to the scene in Northern California. Now she has moved to Southern California and is re-releasing her debut studio LP, ‘Special Invitation’ which in 2004 received rave reviews. Critics quickly concluded that Tanya Fermin was a talent to watch in the Millennium, with www.stylefeeder.com concluding that "the R&B style Tanya favors features the kind of old school soul groove that's frequently favored by `smooth' jazz stations. On the other hand, she has real straight ahead chops...She's variously steamy, exultant and confiding in tone, always giving the sense that she's singing to you, personally. Her rich vocal palette has the ability to cross genres freely, she's ready for airplay success."
Popular critic Keith ‘MuzikMan’ Hannaleck, meanwhile, observed that Tanya’s “voice is rich and deep with expressiveness and those aspects come through beautifully...Her voice is so flexible and strong that it could adapt to any genre of music without difficulty." Over the course of the past few years, Tanya Fermin has received additional media coverage from such popular music media as www.TopTenReviews.com, www.radiogetswild.com, www.artistdirect.com, www.themusicpages.com, www.ejazznews.com, www.msn.com, www.ourstage.com, and www.newsmusic.com.
”I decided to take some time off to find clarity and find myself. I am documenting this in a book called “This is me…now,” Which features my personal story of gastric bypass. In addition, I am chronicling the process of recording two new albums. One consists of my favorite covers as well as writing a new studio album to be released in Spring of 2009. “
Tanya describes this new project as “the journey that I am taking in making my next CD through my website/myspace/youtube. I am gathering all aspects of it now. I am envisioning having podcasts, blogs, videos and webisodes showing the process of recording it and everything that goes into it. I will try and pack a lot into the webisodes (voice lessons, songwriting sessions, recording in the studio, cutting the songs, music videos (live and taped).”

Besides working on me-going to the gym, taking voice lessons and networking like crazy! I am also trying to get this myspace up and running and doing what it do. SO check it out- www.myspace.com/tanyaferminmusic The last few months have been pretty rocky and I have had to push back my relaunch. A bummer I know! but the best laid plans sometimes just don't come to roost. Now I am looking at October to really get things rolling again. Being an independent musician sometimes means having to wait. Choosing the right look for you with the image you want to convey. It’s very important to create your style and image and know what you are after BEFORE you set foot on your shoot. Meet with your photographer before hand to know the parameters of your contract and what to expect. Organization is key-especially when it comes to what outfits and “looks” you want to achieve. You will decide what outfits you will wear, and you should be aware of what looks good on your body. Some ideas: go to a boutique or mall and try on clothing-have an open mind and bring along a friend that you trust. Unless you’re Angelina Jolie or Brad Pitt-everything will not look good on you-so don’t bring that friend that says that! Once you have chosen the outfit(s), don’t forget the accessories!! Your shoes, undergarments, earrings, hats, sunglasses etc,. A great idea to package each complete outfit into it’s own garment bag-this way you won’t have to search for something when it’s time to change to a different look. Yes-get a make-up artist! The less airbrushing your photographer has to do-the better. You want to look your absolute best. Next-location-location-location-especial Finally-choosing the pictures-don’t be hasty here-pick the right photos that make you say YES-that’s the musician I am, rather it be for your album cover, publicity shots or just to update your networking websites. After all-it is all about you so make it the best. Photographer Steven Barston did a fabulous job at capturing the feeling I wanted to portray. I'll post more as the weeks move along. Hello All, Hi Everyone, Happy Columbus Day, I hope as you read this you are indeed having a blessed day.
